The story of Ventura will come to life as it grew from a Chumash Village to a        modern city – how the city was formed and why it is a prominent community.      Also discussed will be some of the more unique & famous characters who have made Venura County their home, from Nephi Jones to Kevin Costner.

The Life & Legacy of Erle Stanley Gardner

Perhaps the best known lawyer in the world, Perry Mason was created in Ventura by local lawyer Erle Stanley Gardner.  The creation of this beloved character will be the highlight of this talk.  In many ways, Mason is a reflection of Mr. Gardner himself. 

Mr. Senate is also renowned for his knowledge of early California history, specifically of Father Junipero Serra & the establishment of the California Missions.

The Ghosts of Haunted California

A tour of the supernatural side of the Golden State from the haunted missions and historic adobes, to the roads were many believe that ghost walk. Gold Rush ghost towns from Bodie to Calico.  Forts, like fort Point in San Francisco to MacArthur Battery in San Pedro, have stories of phantoms, to battle fields like San Pasqual and Lava Beds (Modoc War), Mansions including the Governors Mansion in Sacramento and the homes of Silent Movie Star William S. Hart and Rudolph Valentino.





Haunted houses of the West

Many mansions and adobes in the southwest are rumored to have ghosts,            including the Molly Brown mansion in Leadville Colorado & the Kit Carson Adobe in Taos, New Mexico. The talks will Include The Hearst Castle in San Simion as well as many more stories of the landed gentry of early California, such as the       Olivas Adobe in Ventura, Ca.

Drawing upon his deep knowledge of the history of California, Mr. Senate brings to life compelling stories about hidden gold mines, buried pirate treasure, and even treasure  hidden by the Missionaries to avoid having the Pope’s gold fall into the wrong hands!
